12 July: The Cottage – Zoe’s Blog

Today we went to the cottage. It was surrounded by trees in the middle of nowhere. To get there we took a bus from Kumamoto train station. When we got to the bus stop we were picked up by the owner of the cottage. He took us on a 15 minute drive to the cottage.

To get to the front door you went over a little bridge and up some stairs. once you got inside there was a small room which had a low table and a kitchen in it. Up a step was a lounge and sleeping area with some large cupboards to store futon (sleeping mats) in. On the floor there was only space for two so me and Maya slept in the cupboards. Maya slept on the top shelf of one cupboard and I slept on the bottom shelf of the other. On my bed I had 5 mattresses but Maya only had one.

Outside our door and down a path was an onsen. It was a private onsen for us but the other two on the property were public. The public onsen had gorgeous views of the waterfall from them.

We stayed at the cottage for three nights and did nothing but relax the whole time.
