Another gem by Yvonne Morrison. Keep the CD in your car for easy entertainment. A Kiwi Night Before Christmas is a great New Zealand story about 2 kids spotting Santa arriving with their pressies on Christmas Eve. It has become a Kiwi classic – my kids half think that the sleigh really is pulled by sheep after this book!
You can read this or sing it as the rhyme is clever and catchy. It’ll get stuck in your head though so read at your own risk!!
We’ve read this book hundreds of times and never get bored with it. The story is about a giraffe who becomes an outcast because he can’t dance as well as the other animals in the jungle. He leaves the annual dance feeling very downhearted until he meets a violin-playing cricket who gives him the confidence to find his own rhythm. I wont give away the ending but needless to stay it’s a happy ending and all about not listening to negative comments from others and doing your own thing.
There’s plenty of well thought-out rhyme, humour and great illustrations. You can spend extra time hunting for the cricket on each page for a bit of added entertainment too.

All the animals in this book thought Gerald couldn’t dance but they were wrong. Gerald was my favourite character. This taught me that even if you think something you might not be right.

I haven’t listened to the CD version of this book but this is one book that could pull off a CD well.
If you like singing books instead of reading then then The Wonky Donkey is a must!
The Wonky Donkey CD is great for the car or home and got into my head so much I had to ration it out and use it as a reward for good behaviour for a while.
The Wonky Donkey is a New Zealand book and is humorous enough to entertain adults as well as kids of all ages.
