What could be more appealing as a storyline than a small girl getting the better or a mean principal and her negligent parents? I hadn’t read Matilda by Roald Dahl until recently when Zoe and I enjoyed it together (I was doing the reading). There’s a bit of fear, plenty of humour and a good old-fashioned happy ending.
I particularly like books about girls standing up for themselves and not being afraid to go their own way – Matilda one definitely fits the bill.
